My students range from grades K to 8th. Many were born in Central America or Africa and came to the US with their families to find better schools and opportunities for their futures. They have such a strong desire to learn. However, because most of them have suffered interrupted schooling because of their immigration coupled with their need to learn English, most are below grade level in reading. One of the most difficult hurdles they face in their early literacy, is reading common, high frequency words. Learning such words is critical to students' early reading accuracy, comprehension and fluency. What is special about Snap Words cards is that each word is illustrated with an image created in the actual word itself. Exposure to drawings that actually define these words will help my ESL students immensely.
