Our school is a K-1 literacy center that serves two communities in a suburb just outside of Philadelphia, PA. Our community has seen an increase in the number of students qualifying for federally funded services, such as reduced lunch eligibility and Title 1 services. In addition, funding for public education in our state has been dramatically cut, which has affected our school budget and availability of funds for classroom supplies. I have two half-day sessions of kindergarten, servicing 46 students total. Our school also implements response-to-intervention, which brings an additional 20-25 kindergarten students to my classroom as well.
