Welcome to my DonorsChoose page! Thanks for stopping by. My name is Jessica Floyd and I have been teaching music for 14 years. I taught elementary music for the first 12 years and moved to the middle school level in 2014. Music makes us human. It is found in every culture across the globe and can speak to us in ways that the spoken language cannot. Science has proven that music makes us smarter and engages the brain in ways that no other subject or activity can. Yet, this is only a small part of the reason that I teach music. In my 14 years of teaching, I have seen students who struggle and might be labeled as trouble-makers in other classes. But when they enter my classroom, they thrive. They find a way to express themselves and music becomes an outlet for them. That student who fails nearly every other class, comes into my room and becomes the star. That student is the reason I teach music.
