My students will learn how to use tools to tell weather. Then, after building the balloon helicopter, students will be able to fly the helicopter in various weather conditions to see if it would be safe for flight. My students will be able to put the scientific method to work while determining the safety issues of flying in different weather conditions. The students learn so much when they create what they are experimenting. This hands on opportunity allows students to use what they have read in a book and put it in action. Weather will be simulated with fans (wind), spray bottles (light ran), hose (heavy rain), and hose with fans (tornado/hurricane). Students will be able to compare these experiences to ones that have been on the news or that they have experienced themselves.
