Hello! I started my career teaching 5th grade special education, but to my surprise, wound up placed in a classroom full of 5 year olds, and I haven't looked back since! I am currently in my 5th year as a kindergarten teacher and love it more than I ever thought I would! My classroom is unique in the sense that my students are all learning English as a second language. Most of them are new immigrants who have just arrived to Boston weeks prior to starting school. My students speak a variety of languages, such as Spanish, Kurdish, Cape Verdean, Haitian, Somali, Chinese, and Vietnamese. Having a room full of different languages and cultures definitely makes my job challenging, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I thoroughly enjoy being the first face of American culture for these families and strive to make them feel welcome and important to their child's success, despite their limited English skills.
