We are about to start our new unit about BUGS! During this unit, we will be learning about the Life Cycles of various BUGS including silkworms, ladybugs, darkling beetles, and praying Mantis. Kids love bugs! The joy and excitement on their faces say it all. Exploring the world of bugs is one of the most anticipated subjects we talk about in science all year. This project is going to give students the opportunity to document the life cycles of various bugs including silkworms, ladybugs, darkling beetles, and praying mantis. It is my job to help foster and encourage this excitement and exploration. Finding new and creative ways to teach our content that helps it come alive and gives all my students a better understanding on how life cycles work. Students will engage in the life cycle development of these insects from the egg stage, and daily monitor, examine and document each stage of the insect. Photography, through the use of the iPad mini and pocket lens, is a great medium to allow students to create their own culminating presentation of insect life cycles and to summarize their experiences of this Life Cycles Unit.
