My students are culturally diverse. This presents many opportunities for instruction that they can relate to. In order to reach every different student, I need to display beautifully the cultural wealth from the students. This will create a common jumping off point for instruction toward a collective goal. Our school is diverse, in a suburban location in Marin County in Northern California. But our school, a charter, serves a variety of students - some from a wealthy suburb of San Francisco, and some from a diverse community called Marin City. The kids at the school rarely cross paths once school is out, so the classroom must be a comfortable 'third place of inclusion' for the children. Neutral yet rich - using colorful display paper on the walls creates spaces on which they can display their work throughout the year as we move through the curriculum.
