The world of intervention is ever changing with the needs of my students and it is absolutely necessary to be up to date on the latest information. The more tools I can have, the more use I can make of my time with my students.\r\n\r\nThe trainings and books provided have already completely shifted my approach this year. On the one hand it renewed my efforts to find and administer a universal screener for numeracy. This way I can be certain I'm working with the students who need it and also see small gaps early on that may present as larger problems later. Getting the entire school on board with universal screening helps us an an entire school to better our practices. The other big impact I've seen so far (which you can see in some of the pictures attached) is the use of rekenreks. This is a popular manipulative that I hadn't used with students previously, but which the training was adamant about using. The impact I've seen is substantial. Students started to count on, they were able to see more visually parts and wholes (which is a large gap at our school), as well as build foundational skills more quickly and easily.\r\n\r\nAs the year continues I cannot wait to dive more deeply into the games with my students (they already love the ones we do play) and learn even more about how to improve my practice. I extend my gratitude wholly to everyone who has supported this journey.
