I want to provide a learning environment that satisfies the needs of each one of my students. Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, keeping them more alert and focused. A classroom with flexible seating will give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them and their learning style. Bringing this type of seating to my classroom will help nurture collaboration and communication. It will also allow for practice with higher-order thinking skills, like problem-solving, emotional skills, like conflict resolution, and turn-taking/patience (especially for a generation of students immersed in immediate gratification). Your generosity will enhance the classroom for individual children who desperately need an alternative to the traditional classroom setting. Enhancing the learning environment so that it applies to all will change the course of their education for the rest of their lives.
