My students need yoga mats, aromatherapy and flexible seating to encourage a peaceful and mindful classroom environment. It allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables using a variety of crates or wobble chairs, sitting or laying on the floor with a clipboard or using rocker chairs around the room. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. These materials will also allow our classroom to be a more peaceful setting. Students respond and learn better when the environment is calm and inviting. It helps them remain calm and be a much better learner. The yoga mats will not only be used as a flexible seating tool but will allow us to do yoga breaks throughout the week.
