Excel Academy South is an Accelerated High School Diploma program in Philadelphia serving students who haven't quite fit into the Philadelphia Public School system. Most of them are over-aged and under-credited. We are not a charter; we have a contract with the Philadelphia School District to serve this specific student population. My students are excited to learn about power: the power of money and the power of the government. It is a course on Economics and Civics taught within the parameters of information they can/must use once they graduate. Because Social Science is the last of the required Social Studies classes, nearly all of my students are about to graduate. So, the course focuses on real-world opportunities and consequences. The picture on this site is of the school's Fall 2016 Honor Society. It is an extra-curricular program I started at the school in 2010.
