Our school’s book room contains a wide variety of high-quality fiction and nonfiction leveled texts, which can be used to deliver effective Guided Reading instruction and to increase students’ enjoyment and stamina during independent reading. We have found that teachers are often reluctant to utilize the book room due to an inefficient management system. I would like to implement a web-based program to manage and inventory the books in our book room to provide teachers with a quick and easy way to check out/check in books and most importantly, to assist them with finding appropriately leveled texts to best meet the needs of their students. We’ve selected a free web-based program, and my hope is to inventory all of the books in our school’s book room and to create a user-friendly “station” with an iPad and a USB bar code scanner where teachers can check out and check in books in an efficient manner. Thank you for helping us take on the challenge of inventorying and managing our book room so we can put more high-quality fiction and nonfiction leveled texts in teachers’ and students’ hands!
