My self-contained special education students live in an urban community. We are a Title 1 school, with high levels of poverty. All of my students received free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students are the children of immigrants, and are bilingual. Several of my kids take home food sacks on Fridays from our school food pantry. My families are supportive of their students, but most lack the funds to provide school supplies. My students have been diagnosed with what is called "intellectual disability." This means that while they can and do learn, our focus is on functional skills that will help them achieve some level of independence. For example, even though they are middle schoolers, most read at a Kindergarten level. Your donations mean the world to us, providing learning tools and opportunities my students would otherwise not be able to access. You can help them find their place in society.
