Williamsburg Preparatory High School is a Title I school in Brooklyn. Approximately 83% of students receive free or reduced price lunch. My students include immigrants and first generation Americans; their native languages include Spanish, Polish, and Arabic. Dozens live in temporary housing or are without WiFi. Given the economic devastation facing our city, we fear next year will present even greater challenges. Our school distributed each and every one of our existing Chromebooks for students to use at home, and dozens more received iPads from the DOE; still, a huge number of our students are attempting to complete a full schedule's worth of online assignments from their smartphones or are sharing devices with multiple siblings. The students with disabilities and English language learners I work with would benefit immensely from access to fully functioning technology.
