Physical activity has been linked to better behavior and better overall performance in school. Flexible seating options and sensory tool options can provide students with the opportunity to increase self-awareness and make good responsible choices for themselves. Additionally, providing games and books that promote social-emotional learning will enhance overall school performance. The sensory tools, games, and books requested will teach children valuable social skills and self-regulation skills which allow them to learn in a more positive, purposeful way, both individually and cooperatively with their peers. Books are incredible teaching tools. I'm Not Just a Scribble teaches children about accepting and loving themselves. The Angry Dragon teaches children about managing strong emotions. The Learning to Get Along series addresses multiple aspects of social-emotional learning and positive interactional skills. Pete the Cat games provide both academic learning opportunities as well as social skills learning opportunities. This project will empower students by allowing them to get their wiggles out as well as figuring out what works best for them to increase focus and attention. They will feel more aware of their own emotions and will have a greater understanding of how to best interact with their teachers and peers. They will be ready to learn!
