These material will open a new world for our students, allowing them to physically connect the world of technology with nature. Our goal is to build a Eco-tech garden that utilize technology to grow and manage crops. We hope with these tools, our students will develop a greater appreciation for agriculture and nature. Our students are very technological as noted by their performance in everyday activities that involve technology. However, they lack understanding on how and why scientists use technology in fields like agriculture or ecology.
They deserve to be exposed to another world of options with technology. We as teachers must inform them of the advances technology can provide in other facets of life. We hope with these tools, we can give ALL of our children that opportunity.
We have a diverse population of students, some English learning students who express passion for science, but miss critical principles because of language barrier. We hope to alleviate some of their frustration by introducing the BrainPOP ESL into the science class and ESOL class. We have outdoor classroom that we wish to utilize and invest our children in agricultural practices by reaching out to their artistic and engineering side. We our kids to utilize their artistic sides by painting the water collection tanks and planters. We hope through art integration our students will take a personal affinity to the outdoor classroom. Moreover, we want the students to build a solar power irrigation system to maintain the garden during the summer season. They need to practice as well as develop a program system, we hope the K'Nex kits and Circuit kits will push our students in the proper direction.
