My students are mostly 11th and 12th graders in a general Biology course. Our school (~2500 students) is a comprehensive four-year high school, servicing grades 9-12 in an urban setting. Students at our school live in the neighboring communities and are dedicated to academic success and rigor. My students are curious, full of questions, and would engage in the biology content more if they could manipulate and experiment. We study biology how it was always meant to be studied: hands-on, minds-on and problem based. When my students are in labs, they appreciate the time to explore and learn. They request labs because they can connect to the content and develop a deeper understanding of the underlying principles.
