The students within the Morton community are incredibly special, as are all children around the world. However, these students come from a small community and a rather low-income area. The crime rate in this area was rated a 23, with the safest being a 100. The k-2 grades of our elementary school consists of 7 teachers in each grade level and five years ago each class consisted of about 29 students. There has been a lot of teacher turn-over in the past few years, which I feel has caused some inconsistency for the students. However, the faculty and staff here now really seem to enjoy what they do and care about each student that walks through the door. I wish for my classroom to be an enjoyable, welcoming place for these students and a place with multiple resources to enhance their learning.
