Many of my students love to take pictures but most only have experience using their cell phones to take photos. I like to start the school year off with a portrait photography unit to capitalize on an artistic media they are familiar with while enhancing and deepening their understanding of photography history and technologies. I currently have 2 digital cameras for 30 students to use for 6-7 classes. Students are great at sharing the cameras but having another digital camera for them to use will ensure that more students get a change to have personal experience with the digital DSLRs.
