This year I would like to focus on incorporating more social justice topics in my classroom. I plan on using read alouds to start conversations and allow students to look at the world from different perspectives. Books are a way to see yourself, people like you, and people different from you represented in positive ways. These books range in topics from racism, friendship and disabilities to emotional regulation, mindfulness, and growth mindset. This may be the first time some of my students are engaging in these types of conversations, but it is crucial in order to build empathy, awareness and advocacy.
