My students love to read, but like many young readers they want books that excite them. I want to create an environment for my students where I can build on this excitement, and use it to focus on enhancing their reading comprehension. I have developed a small corner of the classroom designated for reading that has age appropriate chairs, where students can cozy up with a good book. Each book that enters my classroom is treated with love and respect, ensuring that future students will have the same opportunity to develop a love for reading. My goal is that by providing these books, it will not only help them enhance their reading skills but also serve to encourage their interest to read independently. I have chosen these specific grade appropriate titles specifically based on what I have seen my students reading and begging for when not available in the library. I hope that by providing these titles, it will spark an interest in my students to develop positive reading habits that they can use both in, but also outside of class. The best way to enhance reading skills is through reading, developing a love and interest for reading is paramount to ensuring that my students can continue to grow stronger in reading.
