Reading is a building block to all the subjects - without reading, a student cannot learn math, science, or history. My goal is to help students find genres that they love so they will improve their reading skills. It engages their imagination, their reasoning skills, and their ability to connect to the world. We will have a Glow Day where students will use highlighters to mark passages and then see their results under black light to help them summarize. With will use the finger lights in the same way helping students focus on the reading in front of them. School is a place where students should feel motivated, creative, and inspired. The posters will be used in the hallway to enhance the atmosphere at STEM. We want students to be excited to come and look forward to working on their projects. The posters and supply caddies will help accomplish this mission. The light covers will help those that struggle with ADHD, anxiety, or hyperactivity to be mentally prepared to learn. My dyslexia students can use the overlays to lower their frustration levels and increase their comprehension. All these things are geared towards creating an environment where students are safe, happy, and want to learn.
