I serve 750 students and their families. 83% of our students are in poverty and 51% speak a language other than English as their first language. We also have the largest amount of migrant students in the county. Our library is a vibrant classroom. We provide not only print books but databases, electronic books, magazines and now we are creating a space for children to design and express their creative ideas. Families will be welcomed to participate with their child on Maker Mondays and students will be encouraged to enjoy this maker space during all available free - time, including morning arrival, lunch and after- school. As a result of families coming in with their children, I hope to spread the message of family literacy so that the community as a whole can be encourage to develop.
