We have been accepted to compete at the Showcase of Champions! But as is the case with many low-income area schools, we cannot pay all the expenses. We practice every day, even when there is no school. These kids have the desire and the drive to compete and prove they are great athletes. We struggle in the sense that we do not have a cheer gym to practice in. We practice on the turf outside the school as the gym is taken by the basketball team to practice. The athletes come from very low income areas and therefore, we must do a lot of fundraising to get to competitions. We sell hot dogs, soda and anything else we can think of to raise money for the team. It would be amazing to be able to attend an event and not have to worry about the competition fee. These kids truly deserve it for all their hard work and determination.
