My students speak Spanish at home, but not all have had the opportunity to learn how to read and write in their mother tongue. So, although they are bilingual, most are on a journey to become biliterate. Reading in Spanish "...helped me to start reading a little faster - it is a positive thing for me because it is helping me." Many of my students struggle reading in English, but enjoy reading in Spanish. Strengthening their Spanish literacy also strengthens their English literacy. This Spanish classroom library will help to foster biliteracy and the love of reading in my heritage Spanish speakers.
