In the twenty first century, technology is at the center of everything we do. In many poverty stricken schools, budgeting for technology is not a priority as other student needs take precedence. As a teaching team, we are working to use technology to develop our students' communication, employability, and academic skills and we need your help! Many of our young men have experienced trauma which greatly impacts their motivation and attention. Our class includes students with a range of abilities including gifted and talented, typical learners and students with disabilities. Most of the students in our class are a year or more below grade level. 99% of our students are students of color. As a teaching team, we know we can encourage our students to reach their potential but could greatly benefit from better reading materials and learning programs that can be accessed through technology. One of the many challenges we face as teachers is delivering instruction that is individualized to each student and having this iPad will bring us closer to a one to one technology ratio that will make that individualized instruction a reality in our classrooms.
