My students are amazing. They inspire me daily by defying their odds. They come to school as early as I do (often an hour and a half before the school day even begins). They don't sleep because they are helping their parents take care of the household. They stay late to ask for help with their homework. My school services these amazing children, 98% of them low income, a mostly Hispanic (or as they often call themselves, Mexican-American) population, with a number of African American and Caucasian students. I often find myself in awe of their abilities. Many in my class are fully bilingual, able to read, write, and speak in both English and Spanish. These are the future CEOs of major companies. They live by the phrase "Si se puede" and they can, they can do anything they put their mind to.
