My classroom of 25 students will benefit greatly from this project. I am looking to have my students dive into digital portfolios next year and the addition of two Ipad minis will help me accomplish this. My students will engage on hands on STEM related work and be able to utilize the Ipads to create and share projects. Currently my students do not get many opportunities to share the work they are doing in the classroom. The Ipads will help me broaden the tools they can use to complete assignments and projects. The students will also be able to share their work with family members through a digital portfolio service. I experimented with this last year, but was unable to allow all students to share their work and experiences in the classroom due to lack of technology. The students that did share their experiences (videos, blogs, pictures) were highly motivated and proud of the work they did. Using these tools in first grade will give my students different perspectives on how to show understanding of material taught and allow them to use technology in a way that promoting their learning. For example, my students learned about animal habitats last year and they were tasked with creating animal reports and models. My idea is to use these Ipads to allow my students to dive deeper into researching, creating and sharing information. These two Ipads would allow more of my students to participate in this process and experience the excitement of sharing work they are proud of with others.
