Chromebooks are great, right? Students can use them to read, research, write, and complete their assignments all with one incredible piece of technology. However, nearly all of my students have a tiny problem with them: they really don't like the Chromebook trackpad. It may not seem like much, but for many of my students who have learning disabilities or are English language learners, the frustration of using the trackpad on the Chromebook can sometimes be enough to make them give up on assignments, especially ones that require a lot of clicking and dragging, right clicking, and so on. A wireless mouse makes all of these tasks much easier. Before COVID (and before students each had their own Chromebooks), I had a Chromebook cart with a class set of wired mice in my classroom. Nearly every student would pick up a mouse when using a Chromebook. Now, with class sets not really being an option due to COVID mitigation strategies, I would like each student to have their own wireless mouse that they can keep in their Chromebook case not just to use in my class but in all their classes, as well as when they are home. Between this semester and next, I will have approximately 160 students. I am requesting 40 additional mice to have on hand for lost or broken mice or students who get added to my roster later in the semester. Each mouse takes two AAA batteries, so I am requesting enough to give each student a set with their mouse. Any unused mice at the end of the year will be provided to students next year. Please give my students one less frustration as they transition back into navigating a traditional school day.
