Who are my students? They are my children. Children that have moved the United States of America in search of a better life; the American dream. They are all from low, socio-economic homes. For some, they are the only ones in their families that have attended school. They are genuine with their thoughts and generous with their kindness. Each day I am in awe at the bright smiles looking back at me and I am honored to be in their presence.
Many arrive and have no reading/math skills for lack of schooling in their country yet they are eager to learn english and are brave to face a new culture and embrace it completely. My school has about 950 students, 98% on free lunch and from poverty stricken homes.
Perseverance is always our word of the day and our motto is " knowledge is power" therefore each day in our classroom academic as well as life lessons come alive. Buddha said " choose something you love to do and you never have to work a day in your life" I am passionate about my teaching.
