Reading can sometimes seem tedious to students. My hope is that through this listening center, students will begin to love reading. They will be able to hear books read in a way that is exciting and engaging, as well as choose books on topics that interest and exhilarate them. Many of my students are also learning English, and listening to a fluent reader can aid in the process of language acquisition. Instilling a love for reading and learning is my number one goal in the classroom. Reading is a fundamental skill that everyone needs. In our classroom we do Daily 5 centers and one of these centers is a listening center. However, using our classroom laptops for this has been a challenge. With tablets and headphones, students can sit comfortably around the room and curl up with a good book. I know these tablets will foster a new love for reading in our classroom.
