Good photography is all about manipulating light. My students have already learned how to capture and control natural light. Now that we've mastered the exposure triangle, my students have started experimenting with flash. Since our flashes are all on camera, we're limited to the capabilities of a single speed light. Purchasing triggers will allow my students to experiment with off camera lighting and create a portrait studio experience. With this equipment, my students will have the ability to produce professional level portraiture and create portfolios to carry beyond high school. Photography is a real world skill with employment opportunities immediately after graduation. A solid portfolio with off camera flash examples will give my students a foot up on the competition they face in this ever growing job market. Finally, an off camera flash setup allows us to begin developing programs to give back to our community through photography.
