Clean clothes, breakfast and snacks, absentee parents, latchkey afternoons are typical challenges some of my children have to face each day. However, I am amazed at what happens each and everyday we all get together to learn. They surpass their disadvantages and become brilliant thinkers! It blows me away to see their enthusiasm for learning. My class is very diverse. From year to year, I always have representation from Caucasian, African American, Arab, Hispanic, and Asian ethnic groups. Their socioeconomic status is as diverse as our ethnicity. I have students who have plenty and students who have very little. Regardless, they all come excited to learn and willing to take chances in a class where it is okay to be wrong as much as it is right.
