Often students ask to stand, to sit on the floor or in the hallway simply because they are not comfortable in a traditional setting! Materials such as bouncy bands, stand-up desks, exercise balls, and foam chairs will not directly teach my students new skills, but they will help my students be more comfortable and confident while in their classroom. By having a choice in their seating, my students can easily move them around the room as needed for collaboration with their peers or move off to a quieter location. My #1 goal is to create a classroom environment where all students feel safe, comfortable, and successful. We can meet these needs by providing options for seating, in both traditional and non-traditional styles.
