My students are wonderful but they are often the over looked students. Growing up in a rough neighborhood, poor families and lots of bad influences has caused so many of my students to already get into trouble and be discarded by society. Many others just struggle with catching up with information they missed for so many reasons. For some of my students, music class is one where they can feel equal to all their peers regardless of academic achievement and socioeconomic status. Our school's band program has won awards at local competitions where the students have performed for judges. Many of my students can't afford their basic school supplies, but I never let a student go without. However, as our school keeps losing money and people, we have less and less to maintain our instruments so that we can keep the program alive for the students.
