In today's world most kids know computers, and technology better than adults. Why not have them learn on what they know. The days of pen and paper are in the past. As educators we are not only preparing students to survive in the real world but for jobs that have not been created yet. Technology is improving and changing almost daily. If we do not start teaching the students about technology now we are only hurting them in the future. This is why I feel it is crucial that we become a almost virtual classroom. It not only saves trees but will prepare students for the real world by incorporating technology into their learning. An example of this was when I did our Italy unit. Obviously we could not travel to Italy but, we could do a virtual field trip that felt like we were in Italy. We even were able to get lost in alley ways and museums and that opened discussions on the true Venice and not the typical image of Venice. My students got to see that not all of Venice is on water. If they had their own computers they would have been able to explore Italy even more and create presentations on different countries for our multi-cultural night.
