These picture books will help to deepen my students' understanding of the practices of mindfulness. I work with many little people who are experiencing HUGE emotions. They are dealing with so much, and they need help knowing how to regulate themselves when they are at their break point. I want my students to see images of kids just like them, taking those deep and cleansing breaths. I want them to see a child who is closing their eyes, relaxing their bodies, and taking time to process through their feelings. My students need to see that it is ok to slow down, and take the time they need to work through tough moments and feelings. When my students are able to truly recognize their emotions, they will be able to better regulate themselves not only at school, but in their homes and communities as well. I feel compelled as an educator to give these kids the tools they need to help calm the storms that they may be going through.
