The premise of a Montessori classroom is an environment where learning materials are attractively displayed on accessible shelves, fostering independence as students go about their work. So much of this way of learning is hands-on and therefore requires many materials. Many of the supplies we hope to receive like the eyedropper, tweezers, hand sharpener, dressing & zipper frames will help my students to acquire life skills while perfecting fine motor skills. Theses abilities that may have been common to those from my generation seem to be less and less common amongst my students yet no less relevant for daily living. The beauty of the Montessori classroom is found in the empowering discovery of the independence of each child. The materials we have requested are age appropriate, designed to propel my students towards this goal.
