Like many schools across the country, students in Watts face impoverishment, homelessness, neglect, abuse, absent parents, and other traumatic events, but at greater numbers. These social emotional barriers perpetuate the achievement gap as students are referred out of class after presenting disruptive behaviors. At 107th Street Elementary School, our goal is to dramatically reduce the rate of discipline referrals by implementing and maintaining a School-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Plan. As the Restorative Justice Teacher, I collaborate with stakeholders to create systems for monitoring & responding to student behavior in the classroom to reduce office referrals. This page includes projects that are aimed at assisting students and teachers improve the mental and emotional well-being of all students.
