My classroom is a portable located on the Contra Costa Fair grounds in Antioch, California. We are a small charter/public school with 63 students in intermediate. I have 20 - 23 students at a time in my classroom. I teach the same 5th grade group of students math and language arts for three hours a day before our intermediate classes rotate for science, writing, social studies and STEM. I also teach science, gardening and social skills to 4th, 5th and 6th graders in mixed age groups. My core group of 5th graders consists of 12 boys and 8 girls. Their ethnicity: 30 % Hispanic , 5% African American, 5% Asian, 10% Irish, and 50% two or more races. I have 7 students with IEPs and 2 students with 504s. Our school is a public school so we primarily provide education to the neighborhood that we serve.
