Thirty minutes daily of intense reading intervention is what my students need to help close the achievement gap among grade level peers. We will use these tablets for Lexia spell read, a research-proven adaptive program that provides explicit, systematic, personalized learning in the six areas of reading instruction, targeting skill gaps as they emerge, and providing teachers with the data and student-specific resources they need for individual or small-group instruction. These tablets will provide my students with available technology; allowing them to access this computer based program daily. This will provide them with the practice needed to develop reading strategies to help them increase their reading lexile levels. Having these tablets with cases in our classroom will allow the students to practice their literacy skills regularly; instead of sporadically due to lack of available technology in the school, help bridge the digital divide, and give low-income students access to new technology which is an investment in their future.
