Our school computer labs are often booked for testing throughout the year, so we don't always have word processing or research sites readily available. When they are available, I have to send students out of my room to get their work done on a computer in the Media Center. I have requested an iPad so a student can get some work done in my classroom without having to lose instructional time. I try to engage my students with in-class tech games like Quizlet Live, Kahoot, and Gimkit, but not everyone can play, and that's not fair-or fun. While students love playing these games and get so much out of it rather than traditional review, unfortunately, I'll always have a student or two without a cell phone who can't participate. Having a classroom iPad means that all students can participate. I can also use the iPad to grade essays using the Turnitin.com app, which would ensure the iPad was being used even during "off hours" (if such a thing even exists in our profession)!
