First Graders use letters and sounds to build words used in their reading and writing. The magnetic dry-erase easel will be useful for both word study and learning to write words, sentences and stories.
Using magnetic letters, students will manipulate the sounds of the English language to build, read, break apart and re-build words. The hands-on nature of spelling with magnetic letters provides a great deal of satisfaction to young readers. Students can easily change one or more letters to create and read new words.
On the other side of the easel, students can work independently or in pairs to write words they have practiced spelling with the magnetic tiles. Additionally, my young writers can use the chart paper and easel to record their own sentences and stories. First Graders enjoy working with partners to write sentences and read them to each other. The wheeled easel will provide them with a space to do this critical literacy learning work as part of our classroom learning stations.
