Many of these books will be used in read-aloud and social-emotional lessons throughout the year. I tried to choose books relevant to a variety of holidays, backgrounds, and social-emotional skills we will be working on as a class. While this is just the start of my classroom library, I strive to have books reflecting the different backgrounds of each student, allowing the books to serve as windows (learning about those different than ourselves) and mirrors (reflections of our own identities). These books will be made available to students in free-reading time as well. I hope that the books will help facilitate important conversations among these second-graders.

About my class
