I teach English Language Arts and Film as Literature at the senior level. Our school is a Title I public high school in Oxnard, CA. All students receive free lunch and we have a large population of English Language Learners (ELL) and migrant students. I have five class periods with up to 38 students per class. As an instructor, I want to ensure that students feel welcome and safe, are interested and engaged in learning, and realize their full potential. My goal is to create lessons that allow students to engage in activities that offer voice and choice, require social interaction and collaboration, and allow them to feel connected to their learning. I use Canvas LMS with a blended learning approach in the classroom. The resources I choose allow me to meet with students in real-time, record and upload video lectures for students to rewatch, and provide feedback on their learning and life experiences.
