One of my goals is to inspire kids to challenge themselves by reading books outside their comfort zone. Many students like to read books that are below their lexile level. They need to step outside the box and challenge themselves. Unfortunately, most students are more interested in video games and the T.V. By reading the highly entertaining book, Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan, they will learn about the Indian culture, symbolism, and what it means to persevere. This is an amazing story about the trial and tribulations a young girl must go through in her search for happiness. Why this book? Reading will help improve students fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension level. Please help my wonderful students gain a new appreciation of books and a love for reading. I truly feel that they will love reading this great book!
