My students love to cook but we have limited access to a kitchen and I end up bringing most supplies from home. We will use the cart to keep the supplies organized. Life skills are very important for students to learn, especially those who have a disability. I want my students to be able to know how to make basic meals so that they are prepared for adulthood. By having a portable cook top, we will be able to make more than just the basic meals. So far this school year, we have made brownies and grilled cheese sandwiches. However, we have to go to the cafeteria to do this. By having a toaster and stove top in the classroom, we can cook whenever we want while focusing on our students being independent. The cookware set will stay at school for our students to use allowing teachers to leave their personal kitchen supplies at home. Cooking is fun and can be used to teach students how to follow directions, use correct measurements, setting a timer, and so much more! They will learn cleaning skills, mixing skills, measurement skills, while also learning to share what they make with others. It will also build their social skills when other teachers stop to see what we are doing in our classroom.
