All of my students have some form of a learning disability. Some are on the autism spectrum, some have specific learning disabilities, and some have more emotional/behavioral impairments that do not allow them to work well in a larger, general education classroom. In addition, all of my students come from low-income families. Our school is a small, lower performing school that does not have a lot of additional funding, especially for special education classrooms. Any additional assistive technology or materials that I need to help my students thrive in my classroom must be provided by myself independently. My students are sensitive but loving individuals who have developed a love and passion for learning. They can be difficult yet easily entertained when presented with intriguing and new tasks, and they are incredibly curious and creative individuals.
