My students are curious, energetic, and eager to learn through hands-on experiences. In my middle school culinary classroom, students in grades six through eight learn much more than how to follow a recipe. They develop practical skills in nutrition, food safety, kitchen safety, measuring, meal preparation, teamwork, communication, and leadership while discovering the joy and creativity that come with cooking. My students come from diverse backgrounds and are predominantly Hispanic, with a wide range of abilities, learning styles, and exceptionalities. Many of my students come from families who may not have the resources or opportunity to participate in culinary programs or extracurricular activities outside of school. Our Rams Kitchen classroom provides them with a safe, inclusive space where every student can participate, build confidence, and experience success. I love seeing students take pride in preparing a meal from scratch, trying a new food, sharing recipes from their culture, and realizing that they are capable of creating something they can be proud of. My goal is to give every student meaningful, real-world skills they can use at home, in future careers, and throughout their lives.
