I teach AVID for grades 6-8 and two 6th grade math classes at an urban school in state of Texas. In my 6th grade math classes, I teach 1 inclusion class and one on level class. In my inclusion class I have 27 students, 13 of them are classified as Special Ed for various reasons. Disabilities range from Autism, Emotionally Disturbed, to Learning Disabilities. I work very hard to provide the instruction that all of my students can be successful at. Through accommodations and differentiation, my students are successful with On Level content. AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills.
